A Case of Mistaken Identity

We live in an interesting time. I won't get started on how I feel about all of the "Jesus stuff" people buy that keeps the multimillion dollar corporate beasts known as Christian book stores in business, but I've noticed over the last few years that Christians tend to do everything they can to let people "see" that they are Christians... like wearing a Christian t-shirt and a WWJD bracelet while driving a car with a Jesus fish on the back, radio tuned to Dr. Dobson, popping a Test-a-Mint in their mouth. But is all that what we really want to define us as Christians? Is that really what sets us apart from the world? God, I hope not!

I few weeks ago I ran accross an awesome song by Warren Barfield (who, by the way, is the man) that really speaks to me... really, it says exactly what I want to say. Check out the lyrics:

Mistaken - By Warren Barfield

I shouldn’t have to tell you who I am
Cause who I am should be speaking for itself
Cause if I am who I want to be
Then who you see won’t even be me
Oh the more and more I disappear
The more and more He becomes clear

Chorus:‘ Til everyone I talk to hears His voice
And everything I touch feels the warmth of His hand
‘ Til everyone I meetSees Jesus in me
This is all I wanna beI wanna be mistaken For Jesus
Oh I wanna be mistaken

Do they only see who we are
But who we are should be pointing them to Christ
Cause we are who He chose to use
To spread the news
Of the way the truth and the life
Oh I want all I am to die
So all He is can come alive

Chorus:‘ Til everyone I talk to hears His voice
And everything I touch feels the warmth of His hand
‘ Til everyone I meetSees Jesus in me
This is all I wanna be
I wanna be mistaken For Jesus
Oh I wanna be
Oh I need to be mistaken
For you
Oh I wanna be mistaken

Bridge:May He touch with my hands
See through my eyes
May He speak through my lips
Live through my life
I want Him to I want Him to live
